Against the backdrop of Vietnam’s shrimp industry facing urgent demands to upgrade seed quality, achieve autonomy in broodstock supply, and reduce production costs, science, technology, and selective breeding capabilities have become increasingly paramount.
Following 25 years of development, Viet Uc Group has officially unveiled its strategic transition from an Aquafarm model to an Aquaculture Technology (Aquatech) Group—having fully consolidated the essential capabilities required for this landmark transformation.

Vietnam’s brackish water shrimp sector requires an estimated 150 to 155 billion postlarvae annually, corresponding to a demand for roughly 260,000 broodstock. However, domestic broodstock supply remains constrained—particularly for whiteleg shrimp—leaving the industry heavily reliant on imports.
This critical issue was highlighted by Mr. Vo Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, during Viet Uc Group’s 25th Anniversary Event on August 8, 2026. According to the Deputy Minister, alongside optimizing feed costs, advancing selective breeding and domestic broodstock production is paramount to lowering input expenses, enhancing overall production efficiency, and strengthening the global competitiveness of Vietnam’s shrimp sector.

As the group enters this new chapter, the Deputy Minister expects Viet Uc to continuously master core technologies, accelerate R&D, innovation, and digital transformation; pioneer a green, circular, and low-emission shrimp industry; and strengthen linkages between enterprises, scientists, local authorities, and farmers—thereby building a global brand for Vietnamese shrimp anchored in technology, premium quality, and responsibility.
The shrimp sector—and aquaculture as a whole—is entering a vastly different era. Disease pressures are growing more complex, climate volatility is intensifying, and production costs are climbing, while global markets demand ever-stricter standards for quality, traceability, and sustainability. In this environment, superior seed stock alone is no longer enough. Farmers require a truly comprehensive ecosystem of solutions spanning genetics, nutrition, aquatic health management, environmental controls, equipment, and data-driven decision support.
According to Mr. Luong Thanh Van, Founder and Chairman of the Board at Viet Uc Group, technology has been the guiding compass throughout Viet Uc’s 25-year history and will remain the key engine propelling its global ambitions.
Mr. Ton That De, Board Member and CEO of Viet Uc Group, emphasized that Viet Uc 25+ marks a dynamic growth chapter guided by the strategic direction “Lead Local – Go Global.” Under this strategy, the group will continue leading the domestic industry from broodstock selective breeding to high-tech postlarvae production, while systematically exporting Vietnam-developed aquaculture technology to international markets.
Under its redefined strategy, Viet Uc continues expanding its fully integrated aquaculture ecosystem across six core pillars: Aquaculture Genetics, Seed Production, Aquafeed, Farming, Processing, and Aqua-pharmaceuticals. Aqua-pharmaceuticals represents a vital new frontier for the group, focusing on advanced aquatic healthcare solutions such as vaccines, probiotics, and specialized veterinary products.

This entire ecosystem is interconnected by Genomics genetic technology—an area in which Viet Uc has steadfastly invested for over 15 years. By decoding molecular genetics, this technology accurately identifies the individual competitive advantages of stock, allowing for the precise selection of desirable traits such as growth rate, adaptability, survival rate, and overall harvest yield. Viet Uc also plans to extend its Genomics technology beyond whiteleg shrimp to pangasius, tilapia, black tiger shrimp, and other commercial aquatic species.
In the domestic market, the group aims to solidify its leadership by expanding its market share from approximately 32% to 50%, while broadening its product offerings in both broodstock and postlarvae. Under its internationalization strategy, the billion-plus market of China serves as Viet Uc’s initial overseas destination before expanding further into broader Asia and South America. Concurrently, Viet Uc intends to invest in an international-standard Institute of Biological and Genetic Research in the United States to harness global scientific expertise, advance R&D, facilitate technology transfer, and commercialize Viet Uc’s proprietary innovations.
Viet Uc’s transformation from Aquafarm to Aquatech is far more than a brand repositioning—it reflects the core capabilities of an aquaculture pioneer that has assembled all the vital elements needed for its next leap forward. Building on its 25-year legacy, Viet Uc Group remains steadfast in executing its mission: “For a green, clean, and sustainable aquaculture industry, contributing to an enhanced quality of life for all.” By 2030, Viet Uc Group aims to establish itself as a leading aquaculture conglomerate with a US$1 billion enterprise valuation, fully integrated modern governance systems, and a resilient corporate culture ready for seamless generational transition and sustainable growth.
