Common Questions

White leg shrimp stocked at a density of 80 shrimp/m2, for 20 days now, the pH is usually 75-85 in the morning and afternoon, with no difference of more than 0.5, the water color is good, but the alkalinity often fluctuates daily, usually measured at 120 but the next day it is only 80-90. The farming process is not affected by much rain, the shrimp molt less, periodically add CaCO3 lime, Dolomite, minerals and microorganisms periodically and regularly but the alkalinity still fluctuates. Please advise.

Cause: The alkalinity of the pond bottom is low, but the pond renovation process does not add enough lime. The bottom of the pond has a phenomenon of alum leakage, leading to fluctuations in the alkalinity in the pond, causing the pH to fluctuate erratically and unstable, and the difference in light and height. Treatment: Increase the buffer system of the pond water by adding Caco3 lime at 4am from 10-15 kg/1000m2 continuously until the alkalinity is stable. Increase the salinity of the shrimp pond water by draining a certain amount of water in the pond, and pumping back a quantity of seawater with a higher salinity (or a quantity of quality well water with a high alkalinity). This increases the lime and mineral content in the shrimp pond, thereby increasing the alkalinity. Shrimp raised 20 days old, at night clinging to the pond wall (cement), aeration tanks, and tree poles is a normal phenomenon. Because at this time, the shrimp begin to be active, the need to hunt also increases. Surely after a while, this phenomenon will disappear by itself, because the plankton in the pond is exhausted.

Ponds that have been infected with white spot disease should not be rushed to continue farming. Many cases of urgent treatment for farming often lead to failure. In the immediate future, to avoid spreading to neighboring ponds, if the pond has been cured, hot lime should be spread throughout the pond, including the pond banks and paths; make nets to prevent crabs between ponds; make dummies or stretch ropes to prevent birds. After harvesting all ponds, ponds with white spots can be treated as follows: 1/ If the pond has a plastic lining on the pond bank: remove the plastic lining to soak in and disinfect the plastic and spray the pond bank with disinfectant. 2/ After that, the bottom of the pond must be thoroughly drained of mud, if possible, plow and hoe the pond bottom, then spread agricultural lime: 500kg/1000m2 (if plowing and hoeing have been done, after spreading lime, harrow, level the soil, and roll the pond bottom flat). Pay attention to spreading lime on the pond bank (after removing the plastic). Expose the pond bottom to the sun for 5-7 days, then take about 5cm of water to soak the pond bottom, soak for 3 days, then drain this soaking water, and dry for another 3-5 days. 3/ Take another 5-10cm of water, soak in formalin (3-5 liters formalin/1000m2, water level 5-10cm), or 3-5kg potassium permanganate/1000m2 in the late afternoon, you can also use 5kg chlorine/1000m2), take the water mixed with the chemical and spray it on the pond bank… After 1-2 days, drain this soaking water. 4/ Officially take water into the pond through a filter bag (if taking it into a settling pond, do the same). Take water into the bottom of the pond, use 25kg chlorine/1000m2 – water level 1m). When splashing chlorine, turn on the fan and aerate to evenly distribute the chlorine throughout the pond.

All stages of shrimp development can be infected with this disease. The strongest development stage is from the first month of farming to the second month of farming in shrimp ponds. During the 40-50 day period, the pond environment often begins to deteriorate due to many reasons such as: sludge at the bottom of the pond, excess food accumulation; water changes, use of drugs… When the virus infection germs available in the pond encounter environmental fluctuations that weaken the shrimp’s resistance, it will easily lead to the possibility of disease outbreaks, especially at the time when the shrimp molt… To prevent the disease, the pond must be carefully treated; prevent and eliminate all crustaceans in the pond; select safe shrimp seeds; water changes must be treated; biological products should be used to stabilize the environment.

White feces disease is the most common disease that shrimp often encounter, especially in the rainy season. Today, Viet Uc shares one of the effective ways to overcome and treat white feces disease that some farmers have used and brought good results. That is, you should use intestinal herbs or Berberin for shrimp to eat combined with hydrogen peroxide to treat water. Water treatment dose 1-2ppm (shrimp less than 30 days old). Water treatment dose 4-6ppm (shrimp older than 30 days old). When applying the above method correctly, after 2-3 days, the shrimp will be free of white feces disease. If shrimp farmers like articles that answer questions like this, remember to Like & share so that Viet Uc can continue to share more technical knowledge. Some tips for effective shrimp farming, preventing risks that may occur during the rainy season that farmers need to pay attention to are as follows: Maintain alkalinity at a level above 150mg CaCO3/l. Reduce 30% of feed during the feeding because when it rains, the temperature in the pond is low, the shrimp eat less. At the same time, reduce the amount of feed to avoid excess feed. When it rains heavily, it is necessary to run the fan to stir the water to avoid water stratification. Siphon after the rain stops to suck up all excess residue, algae or food remaining at the bottom of the pond. With some of this filtered, practical and effective information, I am sure that it will accompany shrimp farmers for each more successful farming season in the current weather.
