Vietnamese “Shrimp Seed King” Viet Uc Group announces its strategic transition from Aquafarm to Aquatech, positioning science, technology, and innovation as its core foundation.
From humble beginnings in shrimp seed production in Binh Thuan in 2001, Vietnam’s “Shrimp Seed King”—Viet Uc Group—has systematically expanded across the entire aquaculture value chain.
In preparation for its upcoming IPO and on its roadmap toward 2030, the enterprise aims to continuously scale up operations and technological capabilities, targeting a landmark US$1 billion valuation by 2030.
Viet Uc’s strategic transition from an Aquafarm model to an Aquatech enterprise marks a major repositioning: evolving from a dominant shrimp postlarvae producer into a comprehensive Aquaculture Technology Group where science, technology, and innovation serve as the foundation for its next growth phase.
Alongside maintaining its domestic leadership in selective breeding and seed production—aiming to elevate its market share from 32% to 50%—Viet Uc has outlined concrete global expansion plans to take Vietnamese shrimp products and proprietary technologies to international markets.

Under its new strategic orientation, Genomics will remain a core technological pillar for Viet Uc Group. The enterprise is preparing to launch a flagship Genetic and Genomic Research Laboratory, integrating Big Data processing tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) while expanding research across multiple commercial aquatic species.
Viet Uc’s ecosystem is structured around six strategic pillars:
- Aquaculture Genetics
- Aquatic Seed Production
- Aquafeed
- Aquaculture Farming
- Seafood Processing
- Aqua-pharmaceuticals
In this integrated model, genetic technology and data analytics serve as the central axis—connecting the entire value chain from R&D and production to end-to-end farm management solutions. Aqua-pharmaceuticals represents a new business line, focusing on proactive health solutions such as vaccines, probiotics, and aquatic animal healthcare.
China has been selected as the initial market in Viet Uc’s global expansion, aimed at exporting its proprietary technologies, products, services, and scientific solutions. Furthermore, the group plans to establish an international-standard Institute of Biological and Genetic Research in the United States.
Through this comprehensive strategy, Viet Uc aims to enhance the overall competitiveness of Vietnam’s aquaculture sector, empower farmers with more efficient and sustainable production tools, and systematically establish Vietnamese aquaculture technology on the global stage.
Founded by Mr. Luong Thanh Van, Viet Uc Group dominates Vietnam’s shrimp postlarvae market with an estimated 32% market share and a massive annual capacity of up to 50 billion postlarvae.
Historically, Viet Uc gained significant attention for its high capital efficiency, with earnings per share (EPS) reaching nearly VND 48,000 in 2019 due to a modest charter capital base. Back in 2018, South Korea’s STIC Investments valued the enterprise at VND 7.4 trillion.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnamese seafood products are now present in over 170 countries and territories, generating over US$12 billion in annual export turnover. The nation currently boasts over 600 export-certified processing facilities, with the Mekong Delta remaining the strategic hub—accounting for roughly 80% of export shrimp production, 95–98% of pangasius export production, and 50–60% of processing plants nationwide.
