Viet Uc Group marks 25th anniversary, announces strategic shift from Aquafarm to Aquatech

On August 8, 2026, in Phan Thiet, Lam Dong Province (formerly Binh Thuan Province), Viet Uc Group celebrated its 25th anniversary under the theme ‘Pioneering Technology – Elevating Prosperity.’ On this occasion, the Group announced its strategic transformation from an Aquafarm model to an Aquaculture Technology Corporation (Aquatech), establishing science, technology, and innovation as the foundation for its next era of growth.

The event brought together nearly 300 delegates representing central and local government ministries, industry associations, research institutes, universities, financial institutions, as well as domestic and international partners and customers. Key dignitaries in attendance included Mr. Vo Van Hung, Standing Committee Member and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Le Tan Can, Standing Committee Member and Deputy Minister of Finance; Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance; Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang, former Chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Society; and Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

5 Years of Building Technological Capabilities for the Shrimp Industry

Founded in 2001 in Binh Thuan, Viet-Uc started in shrimp postlarvae (hatchery) production and progressively expanded across the shrimp value chain. In 2005, the company entered the whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) segment, and by 2015, it was licensed to produce G3 whiteleg shrimp broodstock in Vietnam. In 2023, Viet-Uc completed its end-to-end shrimp value chain while continuing to invest heavily in research, science, and technology.

Genomics stands at the core of its technology strategy. Viet-Uc stated it has invested over 15 years in its selective breeding program, building a database of more than 1 million records. The company has progressively transitioned from traditional breeding based on farm data and pedigree trees to molecular genetic analysis, enabling precise identification of superior traits in individual shrimp.

In March 2026, the company launched the VU-S26 “Tu Sieu” (Ultra-Quad) postlarvae powered by Genomics technology, focusing on four key performance traits: growth rate, adaptability, survival rate, and yield. This marks a major milestone in its long-term investment in genetic science and selective breeding programs.

From Aquafarm to Aquatech

At its 25th-anniversary celebration, Viet Uc defined its next development phase not merely as scaling up farming operations, but as transforming from an Aquafarm to an Aquatech model—evolving from a company operating within the aquaculture value chain into a technology, product, service, and solution provider across multiple segments of the aquaculture industry.

The strategy is guided by the philosophy of “Lead Local – Go Global”: continuing to solidify its role in Vietnam’s selective breeding and postlarvae production programs while progressively taking its proprietary aquaculture technologies to international markets.

In the postlarvae segment, Viet Uc aims to increase its market share in Vietnam from approximately 32% to 50% over the next five years. Concurrently, Genomics remains identified as a core capability to enhance postlarvae quality and lay the foundation for new technological solutions.

Evaluating this direction within the broader context of the industry’s development, Mr. Vo Van Hung, Standing Committee Member and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation will increasingly play a decisive role in the competitiveness of Vietnamese aquaculture.

According to the Deputy Minister, Viet Uc’s contribution over the past 25 years lies not only in scale or market share, but in its role in helping transition the shrimp industry from relying on natural advantages to relying on science and technology; from competing on volume to competing on quality and value; and from receiving technology to gradually mastering it.

The Deputy Minister noted that the future value of aquaculture products will be increasingly determined by genetic resources, biotechnology, data, automation, traceability, and value chain integration capabilities, rather than sheer volume alone.

Drawing from Viet Uc’s growth trajectory, Mr. Vo Van Hung expressed expectations that the enterprise will continue its pioneering role in mastering core technologies of the shrimp sector; developing green, circular, and low-emission shrimp farming; building an innovation ecosystem connecting businesses, scientists, local authorities, and farmers; and contributing to building a national brand for Vietnamese shrimp.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Vo Van Hung acknowledges Viet Uc Group’s outstanding contributions over the past 25 years.

Building an Aquaculture Technology Ecosystem

To realize its long-term growth strategy, Viet Uc is developing an ecosystem centered on six core pillars: Aquaculture Genetics, Hatchery & Postlarvae, Aquaculture Feed, Farming Operations, Processing, and Aquaculture Pharmaceuticals.

In the next phase, this ecosystem is projected to expand into vaccines, probiotics, and proactive disease prevention solutions. Simultaneously, the company aims to scale up the application of data, artificial intelligence (AI), and high-tech farming models to enhance production efficiency, operational control, and overall sustainability across the value chain.

From genetic engineering to seed production, feed, farming, processing, and aquatic health, Viet-Uc strives to build an ecosystem where technology serves as the foundational bridge connecting every link of the value chain.

Reflecting on 25 years of establishing market leadership in the shrimp seed segment, Mr. Luong Thanh Van, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Viet Uc Group, stated that the company’s focus has evolved beyond resolving crop-by-crop operational issues to addressing the long-term challenges of the aquaculture industry through science, technology, and data.

Aligned with this strategic vision, Viet Uc has identified technology leadership as the foundation for its next phase of development, officially announcing its strategic transformation into an Aquaculture Technology Corporation (Aquatech) at its 25th Anniversary Celebration.

“Lead Local – Go Global”: Taking Vietnamese Aquaculture Technology to the World

Alongside consolidating its domestic position, internationalization represents a key priority in Viet Uc’s development roadmap through 2030. China has been selected as the initial target market in the enterprise’s journey to export its proprietary technologies, products, services, and scientific solutions to the global arena.

In parallel with market expansion, Viet Uc plans to establish an international-standard genetics and biological research institute in the United States. This facility aims to connect global scientists, leverage advanced technologies, and drive R&D, advisory services, technology transfer, and commercialization of the company’s proprietary innovations.

For the 2025–2030 strategic period, the company aims to continually scale its operational capacity and technological prowess, targeting $1 billion USD in revenue by 2030. After 25 years, the strategic pivot from Aquafarm to Aquatech marks Viet Uc’s repositioning: transforming from a leading postlarvae producer into a full-fledged Aquaculture Technology Corporation, where science, technology, and innovation serve as the foundation for a new era of growth.

Through this strategy, Viet-Uc strives to elevate the overall competitiveness of Vietnam’s aquaculture sector, delivering solutions that enable shrimp farmers to produce more efficiently and sustainably while progressively establishing a global presence for Vietnamese aquaculture technology.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ton That De, Member of the Board of Directors and CEO of Viet Uc Group, stated that the 25-year milestone serves as a strong springboard for the enterprise to enter a new growth phase driven by greater ambitions. Accordingly, Viet Uc is committed to executing the transition from Aquafarm to Aquatech with aquaculture technology at its core, while pursuing the “Lead Local – Go Global” strategy to solidify its domestic leadership in selective breeding and postlarvae production while introducing its proprietary tech capabilities to international markets.
